Jackson County Central and Martin County each had one champion on Saturday at the Takedown on 22 wrestling tournament in Mapleton.
The Huskies were third in the 14-team field while the Red Bulls were seventh. Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran won the team title.
For JCC, Kayden Eller won the 114-pound title. JCC had two other finalists as Dallas Gossen was second at 139 and Ben Dahlin was runner-up at 152.
Pierce Rohman was champion at 133 for the Red Bulls and Torrey Paplow was second at 145.
Eller, a freshman who is rated sixth at 114 in Class 1A by The Guillotine, won three matches by fall (two in the first period) to win his title.
He pinned Lincoln Rosevold (Mankato East) in :19, Jacob Wilson (Owatonna) in 5:05 and Garrison Dierks (Mankato East) in 1:53. Eller now has a 29-5 record.
JCC’s other two finalists had a first-round bye and won two matches before losing to a wrestler from Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran ranked fourth in the finals.
Gossen (23-12) lost to Kaleb Mead and Dahlin (16-5) lost to Parker Jackson.
Martin County’s two finalists each reached the 40-win mark for the season.
The Class 2A 127-pound No. 5 Rohman bumped up to 133 and won the title.
After a bye in the quarterfinals, Rohman (40-2) won an 11-4 decision over Grady Connelly (New Prague) and defeated Isaiah Gonzalez (Maple River/USC) in the finals by technical fall, 20-5 in 5:48.
At 145, Paplow (40-4) 40-4 won three matches to reach the finals, winning Rakhmatjon Sattarov (Chaska/Chanhassen) by tech fall 19-3 in 1:52, by fall in 1:00 over Zach Quast (Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton) in 1:00 and another tech fall, 21-5 in 4:53 over Karson Tufte (Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran).
In the championship match, Class 1A No. 2 Benito Diaz (Sibley East) was a 12-11 winner over Paplow.
JCC closes out its regular-season schedule Thursday with a home dual vs. Fulda/Murray County Central. Martin County is idle from competition until opening the Section 3AA team tournament on Thursday, Feb. 13.
