SPRINGFIELD – Jackson’s American Legion baseball team one-upped Ernie Banks on Saturday as the Tarantulas played three games in the Sub-District B tournament at Riverside Park.
Post 130, which had opened the tournament with a 5-3 loss to Windom on Friday, defeated Mountain Lake 11-2 and Wabasso 6-2 in first two games Saturday to clinch a berth in the Southwest Sub-State tournament.
Jackson then faced Windom again, falling 6-5 to head to the sub-state tourney as the No. 3 seed from Sub-District B.
Brett Rossow allowed only one hit and struck out 11 in the Saturday morning win over Mountain Lake.
Logan Butzon had three hits for the Tarantulas, Gabriel Wolff had two hits, two runs batted in and scored three times; and Damien Phaly had three RBI.
Trace Michelson allowed two runs on five hits, walked one and struck out nine in the victory over Wabasso that extended Jackson’s season at least one weekend. He also had two hits including a triple at the plate.
Post 130 got another good pitching performance in the seeding game vs. Windom as Cameron Scholten went the distance, allowing only three earned runs and fanning four.
Jackson will open the Southwest Sub-State tournament at 8 p.m. Thursday vs. host St. James, which won the Sub-District C tournament.
