ST. JAMES – Jackson is one of the final two undefeated teams in the Division 2 Southwest Sub-State American Legion baseball tournament.
The Tarantulas scored two runs in the top of the seventh and held RTR without a run in the bottom of the inning to win 5-3 Friday night at Veterans Field.
Post 130 will play the tournament’s other unbeaten team, Luverne at 5 p.m. Saturday. Luverne defeated Springfield 6-1 in the other winner’s bracket game Friday.
Loser’s bracket games Saturday have St. James playing Springfield at 11 a.m. and RTR facing Windom at 2 p.m. The tournament then concludes next Friday and Saturday.
Jackson scored its first run after two were out and nobody was on in the top of the second as Gabe Wolf doubled, stole third and scored on an error. RTR got that run back in the bottom of the frame.
In the third, the Tarantulas took the lead back at 2-1with Payton Handevidt walking and scoring on a double by Trace Michelson.
Again RTR would answer back, scoring twice in the bottom of the third to lead 3-2.
Michelson homered to lead off the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3.
Post 130 scored two in the seventh to claim the victory. Brennan Runge was hit by a pitch and Logan Butzon singled and scored the runs for the Tarantulas.
Michelson had three hits and two runs batted in for Jackson.
Cameron Scholten pitched a complete game. He allowed six hits, walked three and struck out five. Scholten got a strikeout and a pair line outs to get out of the inning without allowing a run.
