Alyssa Taylor has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of the Gustavus volleyball program. She has been an assistant coach with the Gusties since 2018.
Taylor graduated from Martin County West High School in 2011 and Gustavus in 2016.
“It is certainly humbling to get this promotion,” Taylor said. “I have always said that there is something different about Gustavus and in my opinion, what makes it special are the people. This reinforces the value of the people you surround yourself with. Going to work each day with people who are on the same mission and share the same values as you is rewarding.
“I look forward to continuing to work alongside the outstanding coaches, administration, and student-athletes at Gustavus. I am especially grateful to Ro (Head Coach Rachelle Sherden) and Tom Brown (athletic director) for giving me this opportunity.”
She was a three-year starter for the Gusties from 2013-15.
Taylor earned third-team All-America and MIAC Player of the Year as a senior.
After graduating from Gustavus in 2016, Taylor spent two years at the University of South Carolina as a graduate assistant and director or beach volleyball operations.
The Gusties begin the 2022 season on Sept. 2-3 at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational in Ithaca, N.Y.
Gustavus had a 27-6 record last year, won the MIAC Playoff Championship and won a match in the NCAA Regionals before losing in the regional semifinals.
After scrimmages at Minnesota State Mankato and St. Olaf, the Gusties open the regular season with three matches in Ithaca, N.Y. Sept. 2-3.
The Gusties play their first 15 matches away from home before hosting Carleton in their MIAC opener on Sept. 30.
