Jackson County Central is seeded first in its bracket for The Clash XX National High School Wrestling Duals Friday and Saturday in La Crosse.
A total of 32 teams are entered in the tournament.
The teams are split into four eight-team brackets for Friday with all teams wrestling three matches as they compete for places 1-8.
That divides the teams into eight divisions of four teams for Saturday where they’ll wrestle using a round-robin format.
The Huskies, ranked first in Class 1A, have a 4-0 dual meet record and are the top seed in Bracket D.
JCC is wrestling in the tourney for the sixth time in its 20-year history.
In its first bracket match at 4 p.m. Friday, Jackson County Central faces Willard, Mo. The Tigers are ranked 10th in Class 3 (of four classes) in Missouri.
JCC then wrestles either No. 4 seed Liberty Valley, Ariz. or Glenbard North, Ill. at 6 p.m. and also wrestle at 8 p.m. Friday. Teams also wrestle three duals on Saturday.
Last year
Jackson County Central had its best-ever finish in the tournament last year when the Huskies were the fifth seed in their bracket but placed fourth overall.
In 2021 JCC won all three of its matches its bracket, beating fourth-seeded Bolivar, Mo. 48-15, top-seeded Liberty, Ariz. 38-22 and second-seeded Staley, Mo. 49-15.
In Division 1, the Huskies lost 45-18 to No. 1 St. Michael-Albertville, 39-22 to Vacaville, Calif. and 35-28 to Waverly-Shell Rock.
Weights
The tournament will use National Federation of State High School Associations rules so the starting weight for each round will be drawn.
The draw will be held at the coaches banquet on Thursday.
Each successive round will start at one weight class higher.
For example, if 160 pounds is drawn for the first round, second-round matches would start at 170. That format continues for the six rounds of the tournament.
Super Quad
Three of the four teams that will wrestle in the “Super Quad” in Jackson on Friday, Jan. 20 are the number one seeds in their bracket at The Clash.
St. Michael-Albertville is the top seed in Bracket A and Osage, Iowa is the number one seed in Bracket C. Seeded first in Bracket B is another Iowa team, Waverly-Shell Rock.
The final team that will be part of that quad in Jackson is Simley. The Spartans will be at another site in Wisconsin this weekend as they go to Kaukauna for the Cheesehead Invitational.
