Dakota Wesleyan University women’ s volleyball Coach Lindsay Wilber has been named the state’s Women’s College Coach of the Year by the South Dakota Sports Writers Association.
The Heron Lake-Okabena-Lakefield High School graduate guided the Tigers to the NAIA national quarterfinals for the first time in program history as they finished with a 25-8 record that included three wins in the national tournament in Sioux City.
In her ninth season in Mitchell, Wilber led DWU to its second straight berth in the national tourney. The first in 2021 was the school’s first in 31 years.
The 2022 season included a Wesleyan-best 11-5 regular-season record in the strong Great Plains Athletic Conference, regarded as the NAIA’s top volleyball league. The Tigers were 14-3 against non-league opponents.
The season featured eight wins over ranked opponents that included five against teams ranked in the Top 10 at the time. Dakota Wesleyan was ranked sixth in the country in the final poll, a new school record.
DWU has had 10 winning seasons since its start in 1974. Six of them coming during Wilber’s tenure.
Her 152 coaching wins makes her the winningest coach in DWU volleyball history. She has now coached 32 all-GPAC athletes and four NAIA All-Americans.
Lindsay’s parents are Tub and Amy Voss of Jackson. Her husband, Matt, is the head men’s basketball coach at DWU. They have four sons: twins A.J. and Ben, Nathan and Tyson, along with a daughter, Lizzie.
