
Luke Becker’s three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning gave Fairmont a 3-2 win over Jackson in an exhibition amateur baseball game Wednesday at Hess Limberg Field in Estherville.
It was a Jackson home game played in Estherville as seven current Bulls are Estherville Lincoln Central graduates.
The Bulls scored single runs in the first and sixth innings for a 2-0 lead The game in the scheduled seven inning game.
Easton Bahr led off the game with a double, went to third on a ground out and stole home on a throw back to the pitcher for a 1-0 Jackson lead.
In the sixth, Alex Bretzman walked, advanced on Evan Olesen’s single and scored on a double off the fence by Blake Evans.
Becker, a Fairmont High School who played college baseball at Kentucky and then spent two years in the San Diego Padres organization and three seasons in independent baseball, homered in the seventh to score Bryce Borkenhagen and Nolyn Goerndt in front of him to give the Class B Martins the lead.
Jackson was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh by Fairmont reliever Spencer Chirpich, Jack Hested, who played college baseball on that field for Iowa Lakes Community College, pitched the first six innings.
The Bulls had seven hits. Seth Busch and Bahr each had two. Alex Bretzman, Olesen and Evans each had one.
Nate Soelter doubled and tripled for the Martins. Nick Sandberg also had two hits for Fairmont.
Jackson will open a best-of-three Region 10C playoff series vs. Worthington at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wacker Field.
