Carsen Musser took a tough loss in goal for the U.S. National Under-18 Team as it fell 3-2 to the third-ranked University of Minnesota Golden Gophers Thursday at 3M Arena at Mariucci.
The U18s pulled within 3-2 with 1:52 to play in regulation, scoring with Musser pulled out of goal.
Team USA got another chance to pull Musser, but could not get a shot on net late in regulation and fell in a 3-2 final.
The Sherburn native stood tall in net for the U.S. and finished with 29 saves, 13 in the first period, six in the second and 10 in the third. He stopped each of the final 16 shots from the Golden Gophers.
For the season, Musser has played in 15 games and has an 8-4 record. He’s played 747 minutes and 49 seconds and has a save percentage of .889 and goals-against average of 3.29.
Musser did not play Saturday in the team’s 4-3 overtime loss to North Dakota in Grand Forks.
The U.S. team, based in Plymouth, Mich., has a 24-7 that includes a 10-2 record against Division I opponents.
The Under-18 Team plays at seventh-ranked Michigan Friday and then hosts Mercyhurst on Saturday.
