
A pair of close games got away late from the Jackson County Central baseball team Thursday at Wacker Field.
In the first game of the day vs. St. James Area, the Saints scored in the top of the first, with the Huskies scoring two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to lead 4-1. SJA scored two in the top of the fifth with JCC getting one of those back in the bottom half of the inning to lead 5-3.
Neither team scored in the sixth and JCC got first two St. James batters out in the seventh before the Saints out together two walks and two hits to scored three times for a 6-5 lead. The Huskies got a hit to out the tying run of base in the bottom of the seventh, but St. James turned a double play to end the game.
Ben Gallagher and Gage Johnson each had two hits including a double.
Levi Thompson pitched four-plus innings, with Talan Holm going the final three innings.
In the Pipestone game, the Huskies scored four times in the third inning for a 4-0 lead, but the Arrows scored four in the fifth and five in the sixth to come away with the win.
JCC had three hits, one apiece from Jace Jorgensen, Holm and Carson Kolander.
Holm pitched four-plus innings, with Carson Doescher and Thompson also pitching.
