After two wins to start the week and then a rare two straight days to practice, the Jackson County Central softball team faces a tough test at home Friday when the Huskies host state-ranked Fairmont. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The Huskies are 3-7 overall on the season and have won two straight, winning 15-1 at Blue Earth Area on Monday and then beating the Buccaneers 14-2 in Jackson on Tuesday.
The Cardinals were tied for 10th in Class 2A in this week’s ratings by the Minnesota Softball Coaches Association. They’re 12-1 after sweeping a doubleheader from Marshall Thursday, winning 5-1 and 6-0.
Fairmont senior Tegan Livesay pitched two complete games for the Cardinals Thursday. In 14 innings, the Southeast Missouri State signee allowed one run on five hits, walked two and struck out 37. All 21 outs she recorded in the first game were by strikeout and Livesay fanned 16 in the second game.
The teams had originally been scheduled to play a doubleheader Friday, but instead Fairmont will visit JCC again on Tuesday, May 16.
The Huskies are then scheduled to play three times next week.
They go to Redwood Valley for two on Tuesday, host Windom in a doubleheader on Friday, May 12 and then host a tournament on Saturday, May 13.
