Jackson County Central and Martin County have both received academic team awards from the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association.
The Huskies and Red Bulls both earned gold team awards for having a team GPA of 3.5 or better.

Earlier, Nolan Ambrose and Logan Butzon of JCC were named to the MWCA’s All-State Academic Individual Wrestling Team.

Coaching connections
One former local coach and two JCC grads had coaching connections with state tournament entrants.
Todd Card, head coach at Hutchinson/Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart, had seven state qualifiers and three place winners.
Card coached wrestling at Jackson High School, Heron Lake-Okabena-Lakefield/Jackson and Jackson County Central and is a member of the Jackson County Wrestling Hall of Fame. He was also head baseball coach at Jackson and later head softball coach for JCC.
Jackson County Central graduate Nico Feroni is strength and conditioning coach and physical educator at New Prague.
The Trojans were second in the Class 2A team tournament as they lost 46-20 to Simley in the finals. Nico tweeted congratulations:
In the individual tournament, New Prague had four champions and six place winners.
Also, JCC grad Taylor Menke is an assistant coach at Mankato East. The Cougars had one state qualifier who went 2-2.
