WINDOM – Fourth-seeded Windom Area opens the Section 3A girls hockey tournament Thursday, hosting fifth-seeded Fairmont in a quarterfinal round game Thursday. Game time has not been announced.
The Eagles finished their regular-season schedule Tuesday with a 4-0 loss at New Ulm in a game that was 1-0 through two periods.
Windom Area has an 8-14 record, while the Cardinals are 7-13-2.
The teams split during the regular season with the road team winning each time.
The Cardinals won 4-2 at Windom on Dec. 20, with the Eagles winning 4-3 at Fairmont on Jan. 18.
The Fairmont-Windom Area winner advances to the semifinals and plays at top-seeded New Ulm (22-3) at 3 p.m. Saturday.
On the other side of the 3A bracket, sixth-seeded Worthington (5-19) plays at third-seeded Marshall (12-13-1). That winner plays at second-seeded Luverne (21-3) in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Section 3A championship game is scheduled for Tuesday.
