Windom to face Fairmont in 3A girls hockey
Sixth-seeded Windom Area will travel to Fairmont to face the third-seeded Cardinals in the first round of the Section 3A girls hockey tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday at Martin County Arena.
The Eagles are 7-16-2 on the season. They closed out the regular season at home Saturday with a 6-0 win over Prairie Centre.
The Cardinals are 14-10-1. Their last game was a 4-3 loss to Rochester Mayo last Thursday.
Fairmont won both regular-season games, 7-1 in Windom on Nov. 21 and 2-1 in Fairmont on Jan. 21.
Thursday’s winner plays at second-seeded Luverne (17-6-2) in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Luverne has won the section title five consecutive years.
In the other first-round game Thursday, fifth-seeded Worthington (5-16-1) is at fourth-seeded New Ulm (10-13-2). That winner plays at top-seeded Marshall (20-3-2) Saturday.
The section championship game is Tuesday at Lund Arena at Gustavus Adolphus College.
