Hobie Hedquist was in goal for two wins this weekend as the Alberni Valley Bulldogs defeated the Vicotoria Grizzlies 5-4 in overtime on the road Friday and 7-3 at home on Saturday in British Columbia Hockey League play.
In Friday’s game the Heron Lake native made 32 saves on 36 shots including four in only two minutes in the extra stanza. He followed that up with 34 stops on 37 shots on Saturday.
For the season, Hedquist has played in 27 games, has a 16-10-1 record with a save percentage of .909 and goals against average of 2.96. He ranks 10th in the BCHL in save percentage and GAA.
The Bulldogs have won eight in a row and have moved past Victoria into a three-way tie for third place in the BCHL’s Coastal Conference. Alberni Valley is now 18-15-2-1 and 11-6-0-1 on its home ice, where it has have won six straight.
The Bulldogs play five straight on the road over the next two weekends with games at the Coquitlam Express, Langley Rivermen and Chilliwack Chiefs next weekend and two at the Powell River Kings the following weekend.
