Brandon Williamson recorded his third major league victory Friday night as the Cincinnati Reds were 6-5 winners over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
The Martin County West graduate allowed two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings. He gave up eight hits, walked four and struck out two as the Reds moved to within a half-game of first place in the National League Central as Milwaukee lost 10-7 earlier in the evening to Atlanta.
Williamson threw 77 pitches, 48 for strikes.
Cincinnati had lost two of three to the Brewers in Milwaukee before traveling to the west coast.
"I feel like we're pretty good at just like, next up, next game,” Williamson told Mark Sheldon of mlb.com. “We're a really good team and that's what good teams do."
Williamson got into a few jams as he allowed 12 baserunners, but he was able to avoid too much damage as he got the Dodgers to ground into three double plays.
"Honestly, it made the game for me," Williamson said of the defensive plays. "Not only did it save maybe pitches for me, but it saved a couple of runs, possibly. Obviously, the game came down to one run, so it's the difference."
Chris and Logan Butzon of Jackson were at Friday night’s game at Dodger Stadium.

The left-hander has won two straight. He won at home over Arizona last Saturday.
He is now 3-2 record with a 4.48 earned run average. In 66 1/3 innings he has allowed 35 runs (32 earned) on 59 hits, walked 27, hit one and struck out 48. Opponents have a .247 batting average.
Williamson is scheduled to start again Wednesday in Chicago against the Cubs. It will be his second start at Wrigley Field.
