The Martin County West softball team heads into a break in its schedule with a pair of wins on the strength of two no-hitters in a span of about 20 hours.
MCW blanked Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 19-0 in four innings Friday in Okabena and then won 3-0 over Minnesota Valley Lutheran in a Saturday morning contest in New Ulm.
The Mavericks have a 4-1 record and don’t have another game until a nonconference matchup with Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey on Monday, April 21 in Mountain Lake.
Maddie Carlson and Addy Hohlhuter combined on Friday’s no-hitter vs. the Falcons according to MCW’s Facebook page.
Carlson walked one and struck out four in her two innings in the circle and then Wohlhuter fanned four more in her two innings.
At the plate, MCW used a number of walks, hit batters and HLOF error combined with some hits to put some crooked numbers on the scoreboard, particularly during a 12-run second inning.
Courtney Anderson had seven runs batted in as she had a grand slam home run in the first inning, and she then drove in three more in the second on a two-run single and bases loaded walk.
Hannah Rosenberg had three hits for the Mavericks, while Carlson and Emily Schettler each had two.
At MVL, Carlson went the distance in recording the no-hitter, walking three and striking out six.
Courtney Anderson gave MCW all the runs Carlson would need with a first inning two-run single.
