Carsen Musser was the winning goalie and picked up an assist at the U.S. National Under-18 hockey team won 5-3 win over Notre Dame Sunday at Compton Family Ice Arena in South Bend, Ind. The Fighting Irish are ranked ninth in the USCHO poll.
Musser, from Sherburn, improved to 3-0-0 on the season and picked up his second career NCAA win in as many games. He also won over Buffalo State on Nov. 26, 2021.
Musser made 25 saves in Sunday’s win, four in the first period, nine in the second and 12 in the third.
He also recorded an assist on Team USA’s final goal, scored by forward Ryan Leonard (Amherst, Mass.) into an empty net with one second to play in the game.
There are 24 players from 13 states on at the U.S. National Under-18 team. Minnesota has the most players on the team with five.
The other Minnesotans are all forwards, Oliver Moore (Mounds View), Danny Nelson (Maple Grove), Beckett Hendrickson (Minnetonka) and Austin Butrnevik (Blaine).
Moore and Hendrickson have committed to the University of Minnesota and Burnevik has committed to St. Cloud State. Musser and Nelson are uncommitted.
There are three players apiece from Massachusetts and Michigan; two each from California, Illinois, New Jersey and New York; and one apiece from Indiana, Florida, Maryland, Texas, and Wisconsin.
The U18s have two games at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich., hosting Lake Superior State Friday and No. 20 Michigan Tech Saturday.
