Katie Lange won her first two matches before losing in the semifinals of the 68 kg (150 pound) weight class at the U.S. Open Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas.
The Martin County West graduate, seeded fifth, had a bye before winning 10-0 in :27 over Kylie Hulse (Oklahoma). Lange then won 3-2 over fourth-seeded Isabella Mir (Las Vegas) in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Lange had a 4-0 lead before losing by tech fall 14-4 to top-seeded Forrest Molinari (Sunkist Kids Wrestling Club). Molinari won the bronze medal in the women's 65 kg division at the 2021 World Wrestling Championships in Oslo, Norway.
The Under 20 freestyle tournament starts today (Saturday).
Martin County West graduate Connor Simmonds will wrestle at 70 kg and Jackson County Central grad Payton Handevidt competes at 74 kg.
