MANKATO – The Martin County West track and field teams opened their seasons Monday at the Valley Conference Indoor Meet at Myers Field House at Minnesota State University.
MCW was third in the girls meet and fifth in the boys team standings.
In the girls meet, the Mavericks’ 4xc800-meter relay team of Elizabeth Peterson, Maddison Lyon, Katelynn Kennedy and Katie Hartke placed first in a time of 11:40.92.
MCW’s girls had four second-place finishes.
Kari Matejka was second in the 55 meters (8.31), Hartke was second in the 3000 meters (11:35.2) and Aspen Kosbab was second in the high jump (4-6).
Also, the 4x200 team of Kosbab, Avery Sanders, Sway Buchmeier and Matejka placed second (2:03.78).
Martin County West’s boys 4x800 team of Connor Pope, Riley Cole, Jamesson Forsberg and Grant Koehnen was first (9:24.45).
The Mavericks had two relay teams place second.
The 4x200 team of Joseph Forsberg, Kole Hanson, Kylar Larson and Riley Cole was second (1:45.23) and the 4x400 team of Joseph Forsberg, Larson, Jamesson Forsberg and Hanson was runner-up (3:56.09).
Also, Larson was third in the 400 meters (1:00.04) and Hanson third in the long jump (15-10 ¼).
MCW is scheduled to compete in the Mountain Lake Insurance Services Invitational Thursday.
