Martin County West was fourth in the girls team standings and fifth for the boys standings at the Valley Conference Indoor track and field meet Monday at Minnesota State University. The Mavericks were missing several seniors who were participating in their class trip.
Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet won both team titles.
For the MCW girls, Katie Hartke was second in the 3000 meters (11:53.28) and anchored the Mavericks’ runner-up 4x800 relay team (11:55.3). Running the first three legs were Ava Thate, Katelynn Kennedy and Maddy Lyon.
Avery Sanders placed second in the 55 meters (8.39) and third in the 200 meters (31.1). Also, Thate was third in the high jump (4-6).
Martin County West’s boys had two second-place finishes.
Ryan Pierson was second in the 3000 meters (9:38.41) and the 4x400 team of Kole Hansen, Jesus Lerma, Berent Kosbab and Grant Kohnen was second (9:52.18).
Also, Carlos Rodriguez was third in the 200 meters (26.48).
The Mavericks are not scheduled to compete again until Tuesday, April 18 at Maple River.
