Jackson County Central and Martin County West both started their volleyball seasons on Saturday.
The Huskies were 3-0 winners over St. Peter (25-6, 25-22, 25-20) in the third of seven matches at the Big South Conference Crossover Showcase at Marshall High School.
Emma Haren had a double-double of 16 kills and 12 digs for JCC. She was also 15-for-16 serving with four ace serves.
Maci Farmer had 31 set assists. Alexis O’Reilly recorded 11 digs.
Jackson County Central plays Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in Okabena Tuesday and has its home opener Thursday vs. Spirit Lake.
The Mavericks lost their first match but would win their next two in a tournament at Adrian.
Host Adrian/Ellsworth defeated MCW 2-0 (25-11, 25-18) in the opening match of the day. The Mavericks then defeated Central Minnesota Christian 2-0 (25-19, 28-26) and Hills-Beaver Creek 2-0 (25-18, 25-12).
There was a three-way tie for first place in the four-team, round-robin event. MCW would finish in third place using head-to-head competition and point differential.
The Mavericks host Fairmont in their home opener Thursday in Trimont.
