Ryan Rasche was the winning pitcher for Windom in the Pirates' 7-5 victory over Hadley in the opening game of the third-place series in the Region 13C amateur baseball playoffs Wednesday.
A draftee from Jackson, Rasche pitched five innings of shutout relief, allowing only one hit and striking out five.
The Buttermakers had a 5-0 lead before the Pirates rallied for the win.
Game Two is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hadley. If Game Three is necessary it would be in Windom at 2 p.m. Sunday. The winner of the series will advance to the state tournament.
In the championship series, Luverne was a 3-2 winner in 10 innings over the Milroy Irish.
Milroy hosts Game Two at 7:30 p.m. Friday, with Game Three in Luverne at 2 p.m. Sunday if necessary.
Both the Redbirds and Irish will play in the state tourney.
