Martin County West graduate Brandon Williamson was activated from the 60-day injured list by the Cincinnati Reds this (Sunday) morning and will make his season debut today at Great American Ball Park vs. the Milwaukee Brewers.
First pitch is scheduled for 11:10 a.m. Minnesota time.
Williamson sustained a shoulder injury on his pitching arm in spring training and has been out all season.
He began the regular season on the 15-day injured list. Williamson started a rehab assignment in May after being transferred to the 60-day IL but was shut down from that program and was faced with season-ending surgery to remove a Bennett lesion in the shoulder.
Williamson opted for injections instead, and after resumed his throwing program after the All-Star break. He progressed to where he mace the rehab start with Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.
In that appearance he struck out the side in the first inning. Williamson would pitch 2 2/3 innings, now allowing a run on one hit, walking one and striking out four. He threw 50 pitches.
In his rookie season in 2023 Williamson made 23 starts.
The left-hander finished the season with a 5-5 record and 4.46 earned run average. In 117 innings he allowed 63 runs (58 earned) on 111 hits, walked 39, hit two and struck out 98. Opponents have a .248 batting average. Cincinnati was 14-8 in games Williamson started.
Cincinnati is 64-73 on the season and tied for fourth place with Pittsburgh in the five-team National League Central.
Milwaukee, which will send Tobias Myers (6-5, 2.99) to the mound today, leads the Central with an 80-56 record, 10 games ahead of the second-place Cubs and 16.5 in front of the Reds.
