Carsen Musser was the winning goalie as the U.S. National Under-18 Team defeated the Omaha Lancers 3-2 in overtime at the USHL Fall Classic Saturday at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, Penn.
Musser, who is from Sherburn, stopped 16 of the 18 shots he faced. The U.S. NTDP scored the overtime winner just 0:42 into three-on-three action.
It was his second win of the season.
On Sept. 17, Musser made 26 saves in a 7-2 win over the Muskegon Lumberjacks in Muskegon, Mich.
As a member of the U-17 National Team last year, Musser played in 25 games and had an 8-9-1 record with a goals-against average of 3.49 and a save percentage of .888.
The U-18 team plays a pair of Big 10 teams in their home rink this weekend, playing at Michigan State Saturday and Notre Dame Sunday.
That will be followed by two games at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich., hosting Lake Superior State on Friday, Oct. 7 and Michigan Tech on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Then the U.S. NTDP will make the first of three trips close to home for Musser before the end of 2022.
They’ll play St. Thomas at St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights on Friday, Oct. 14 and Bethel at Bethel University Arena at the National Sports Center in Blaine on Saturday, Oct. 15.
The U-18 team will have two games in Iowa in mid-December, playing at the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Friday, Dec. 16 and at the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Saturday, Dec. 17.
Later that month, the U.S. NTDP plays the University of Minnesota Thursday, Dec, 29 and at the University of North Dakota on New Year’s Eve.
