A wrestling camp in Jackson later this month will feature a wrestler who has won three world titles in her career.
Thorn Wrestling Camps will hold a preseason training camp at Jackson County Central on Saturday, Nov. 20 and Sunday, Nov. 21 for wrestlers in grades 5-12. Hours are 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. each day.
Also, a girls wrestling clinic for grades K-12 will be held that Saturday from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
Featured at the girls clinic will be Emily Shilson, who has won two of those world championships this fall.
On Thursday, Shilson won the 50-kilogram (110 pounds) women’s freestyle title at the United World Wrestling U23 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. She won the title with a pin in 1:38 of Shivani Pawar of India.
Thursday’s championship was the second for Shilson in international competitions this fall. In August, Shilson won the 50kg title at the UWW Junior World Championships in Ufa, Russia.
Shilson is also the 2018 UWW Cadet World title.
She’s a graduate of Mounds View High School and is a junior at Augsburg University, where she’s a two-time winner of National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championship titles at 109 pounds and a national titlist at the 2020 WCWA national tournament during her collegiate years. She finished 8-0 in her sophomore collegiate season at Augsburg, with all eight wins coming by bonus-point margins (six technical falls, two pins). She is 22-0 in her collegiate career, with 12 technical falls and eight pins.
One of her new teammates at Augsburg this season is Martin County West graduate Katie Lange.
