
A program that’s been a nemesis in recent years is the next opponent for Jackson County Central in the Section 3AA softball tournament.
The Class 2A ninth-ranked Huskies will play Dassel-Cokato at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Marshall.
JCC, the number one seed in the South Sub-Section, had a first-round bye Thursday and then defeated Windom 6-1, scoring five runs in the sixth inning. Hadley Wachal struck out 13 in the pitcher’s circle while Milley VanDeVere and Bailey Finck hit home runs for the Huskies, 19-3.
D-C, the second seed in the North Sub-Section, won two games at home Thursday, beating Montevideo 11-1 and New London-Spicer 3-0. Aubery Quern pitched a three-hit strikeout for the Chargers, striking out eight. She walked three.
Emily Vacek was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two runs batted in for D-C, 15-5.
Recent meetings
The Huskies and Chargers have met in the section tournament three times in recent years, with Dassel-Cokato winning each time.
D-C beat JCC twice in the tournament last year. The first meeting was at the same point in the tournament this year as the Chargers won 7-6.
The Huskies worked their way through the elimination bracket, beating Pipestone, Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta and Luverne by a combined 22-2 to earn a rematch with Dassel-Cokato in the championship round.
The Chargers earned a spot in the state tournament with a 2-0 win over JCC.
In the 2022 section tourney, D-C shut out Jackson County Central 10-0 in an elimination game.

The Huskies and Chargers do not have a common opponent this season.
